Studio News No.1
For the past 13 months a great team of highly skilled builders have been busy at The Ledge.
Our Cornish home, garden and studio is being transformed and made beautifully, modestly, serenely modern. In all respects the project is exceeding our expectation but, for me, the very modest studio, which is just beginning to emerge from 'the ashes' original garage is the most exciting aspect of the project.
The Studio - A Door to the Garden
I love the clandestine nature of this small horizontally clad addition to our home. I enjoy the contrast it provides to our living room space and the way the two parts of the building interact with each other. They gaze, or so it seems to me, at each other in quiet admiration. Each space knows its place and value.
Living Room - Doors Wide Open onto Garden
I'm looking forward to spending the next many years through the seasons painting in this space. The garden it overlooks is lusciously green and steeply sloped and from the house and studio level there is a sense of being 'in the canopy'. Solid green from late spring and through the summer as Autumn and Winter take over a view across the valley is slowly revealed.
The View Through Studio Door and The Stove ready for winter
I have an ambition to create a new series of garden inspired paintings, but who knows what direction the new work will take. That's what is so exciting a new space and fresh perspective could lead in any direction.
